Have you ever been to the Square of the White Virgin? Have you visited the almond-shaped old town of Vitoria-Gasteiz with its medieval buildings and narrow streets? Have you ever seen the parliament of the Basque Country? Would you like to visit a modern museum of contemporary art or ride a bike in a flat city with plenty of parks? AEGEE-Bilbao gives you the opportunity to visit Vitoria-Gasteiz with the help of local students on the 2nd of April. We’ll do a city tour in this historic and charming city, enjoy a delicious meal in a traditional gastronomic society, visit a wonderful museum of contemporary art and rent bikes to visit the beautiful parks and major landmarks of this amazing city.
It’s well known that gastronomy is one of the biggest treasures of the Basque Country. This is not a mistery for anyone since the amount of tapas, pintxos, taberns and restaurants is really big here. But do you know what is behind this tradition of eating and drinking in a bar? This habit is just a small part of the Basque gastronomy. There is much more history and culture beyond the pintxos and common restaurants, which everybody can find wherever in the streets. Socializing, cooking and enjoying the meal slowly is the basis of the Basque culinary culture. This philosophy was born with the Gastronomic Societires in the past, time before most current bars and restaurants were founded. These societies have a very strong family feel to them and tend to be considered by the members and their guests as a place mid-way between their homes and a restaurant. The friendly atmosphere often means that lunches and dinners end with games of cards or singing, either with family members, fellow students or people at other tables. Having lunch in such a space (which you can only do if you are invited by a member) is just about the closest you’ll ever get to the local cultural life in the Basque Country. But eating and drinking is not the only thing you can do in the green capital (on 21st of October 2010, Vitoria-Gasteiz received the prize “Green European Capital” and it is surrounded by a group of parks forming the “Green ring”). We have more hidden stories to tell you about the city. We’ll make a night city tour around the central area, a guided sightseeing tour from another point of view, diving into the city’s legends through a trip back in time on the medieval town of Vitoria-Gasteiz.

We’ll be selling tickets on Tuesday, 22nd of March, from 19:30 to 21:00 in the bar Poza 42 (Bilbao) and on Wednesday, 23rd of March, from 18:00 to 20:00 in room P2A2 in the Upper Engineering School of Bilbao (ETSI-B).

ANTZINAKO HIRIBURUA EZAGUTU!
Andre Maria Zuriaren plazan egon al zara noizbait? Kale estuak eta Erdi Aroko eraikinak dituen eta arbendola itxura daukan Gasteizko alde zaharra bisitatu al duzu? Eusko Legebiltzarra ikusi al duzu noizbait? Arte garaikideko museo moderno bat bisitatu edo parke anitzeko hiri lau batean bizikletaz ibili nahiko zenuke? AEGEE-Bilbaok aukera ematen dizu apirilaren 2an Vitoria-Gasteiz bisitatzeko, bertako ikasleen laguntzarekin. Bisita turistikoa egingo dugu hiri historiko eta liluragarri honetan, elkarte gastronomiko tradizional batean otordu gozo-gozo batez gozatuko dugu, arte garaikideko museo txundigarri bat bisitatuko dugu, eta bizikletak alokatuko ditugu hiri harrigarri honen parke zoragarriak eta monumentu esanguratsuenak bisitatzeko.
Gauza jakina da gastronomia Euskal Herriko altxorrik handienetako bat dela. Hau ez da harritzekoa inorentzat, hemen aurki daitekeen pintxo, tapa, taberna eta jatetxe kopurua oso handia baita. Baina ba al dakizu zer dagoen taberna batean jan eta edateko ohitura honen atzean? Usadio hau euskal gastronomiaren zati txiki bat baino ez da. Historia eta kultura askoz gehiago dago ohiko jatetxe eta pintxoen atzean, edozeinek kaleetan edonon topa dezakeena. Gizarte-harremanak sendotzea, sukaldatzea eta otordu mantso batez gozatzea euskal sukaldaritzaren oinarriak dira. Filosofia hau elkarte gastronomikoekin jaio zen iraganean, gaur egungo jatetxe eta taberna gehienak sortu aurretik. Elkarte hauek familiako sentipen oso indartsuak sorrarazten dituzte eta bazkideentzat etxearen eta jatetxearen arteko espazioak dira. Laguntasunezko giroaren ondorioz, bazkari eta afariak karta-jolasekin edo kantuekin amaitzen dira, bai senideekin batera, ikaskidekin batera edo beste mahaietako pertsonekin batera. Horrelako espazio batean bazkaltzea (bazkide batek gonbidatzen bazaitu bakarrik egin dezakezuna) Euskal Herriko betiko bizitza kulturaletik gertuen dagoen gauzetariko bat da. Beraz, ez galdu aukera hau! Euskal gastronomiaren jatorria ezagutu gurekin batera!
Baina jatea eta edatea ez da hirburu berdean (2010eko urriaren 21ean, Gasteizek «Europako Hirburu Berdea» saria jaso zuen eta «Eraztun berdea» osatzen duten parke-multzo batez inguratuta dago) egin dezakezun gauza bakarra. Hiri honen inguruko ezkutuko istorio gehiago ditugu zuri kontatzeko. Gaueko bisita turistiko bat egingo dugu erdigunetik, bisita gidatu bat beste ikuspuntu batetik, hiriko kondairetan murgilduz, Gasteizko herri zaharrera denboran atzera bidaiatuz.
